State Park Peace Officer Supervisor Thomas Cunningham and K-9 Doc are assigned to the Monterey District. Doc is a black and tan German shepherd born on Aug. 1, 2021. He is a patrol K-9 trained to find and apprehend uncooperative suspects while protecting his handler, other officers, and the public. He is also certified in explosives detection, and tracking. Doc loves protecting the extraordinary biological diversity and culture resources for the State of California. They often travel throughout the state performing explosive detection K9 sweeps to assist other state park districts and allied agencies. Off duty, he lives at home with Officer Cunningham and his two “brothers,” Byrd and Ben. When not at work, Doc enjoys a good game of fetch and a lazy afternoon with his family.
