Division of Boating and Waterways Offers $4.25 Million in Grants to Enhance Public Safety and Protect California’s Waterways

SACRAMENTO, Calif.—The Division of Boating and Waterways (DBW) is now accepting grant applications to help local public entities enhance safety on California’s waterways and protect them from abandoned and unwanted vessels. The application period for the competitive grant programs, Boating Safety and Enforcement Equipment (BSEE) and Surrendered and Abandoned Vessel Exchange (SAVE), is open from March 15 through April 29, 2022. Interested applicants are encouraged to review the grant guidelines and participate in an applicant workshop.

California State Parks Seeks Public Input in Developing a More Inclusive and Historically Accurate Interpretation at Sutter’s Fort State Historic Park

SACRAMENTO, Calif.— California State Parks is gathering public input on a proposal to fundamentally change the way history is interpreted at Sutter’s Fort State Historic Park (SHP) as part of State Parks’ Reexamining Our Past Initiative.With this effort, a more inclusive and historically accurate history will be shared with the thousands of school children and visitors that annually tour the National Historic Landmark site located in California’s capital, Sacramento.

Division of Boating and Waterways Begins Control Efforts in the Delta for Aquatic Invasive Plants

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The California State Parks’ Division of Boating and Waterways (DBW) today announced plans for this year’s control efforts for aquatic invasive plants in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta and its southern tributaries. Starting Thursday, March 17, DBW will begin herbicide treatments on water hyacinth, South American spongeplant, Uruguay water primrose, alligator weed, Brazilian waterweed, curlyleaf pondweed, Eurasian watermilfoil, coontail, and fanwort in the Delta. Treatment start dates may change depending on weather conditions and plant growth/movement.

California Simplifies Annual Day Use Pass Program for CalWORKs Families

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — California State Parks and the California Department of Social Services (CDSS) have made it easier for CalWORKs families to receive a free annual, vehicle day-use pass valid at 200+ state parks and beaches. Now, families receiving CalWORKs can complete the application on their smartphone in just minutes. By simplifying the application process, more Californians will have access to the outdoors, regardless of their zip code.

Division of Boating and Waterways Offering Grants for Quagga and Zebra Mussel Infestation Prevention Programs

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — California State Parks’ Division of Boating and Waterways (DBW) today announced the availability of grant funding to prevent the further spread of quagga and zebra mussels into California’s waterways. Funded by the California Boater Mussel Fee Sticker (popularly known as the Quagga sticker), the Quagga and Zebra Mussel Infestation Program expects to award up to $3 million to eligible applicants. Applications will be accepted from Monday, March 7 through Friday, April 15, 2022. All applications must be received by 5 p.m. on April 15, 2022.

California State Parks and Partners Celebrate Opening of Gam Saan Trail to Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park

COLOMA, Calif.—California State Parks, the Locke Foundation and members of the Chinese American community celebrated the opening of the Gam Saan Trail on Friday, February 11, that connects Hennigsen Lotus Park in Lotus, CA with Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park. Gam Saan, meaning Gold Mountain in Cantonese, was the historical name given to the gold fields of California by Chinese forty-niners and miners.

California State Parks Urges Public To Help Reimagine Big Basin Redwoods State Park

BOULDER CREEK, Calif. -- California State Parks is urging the public to get involved and to learn more about the “Reimagining Big Basin” project, a project that will memorialize the broad vision for reestablishing California’s oldest State Park. With the loss of all park infrastructure in the 2020 CZU Fire, the park has been closed while recovery work has been underway. During this time, State Parks has kicked off this planning project to initiate the public process of planning the park’s visitor serving facilities needed to provide the visitor experiences at the park.
