Del Norte, Calif.(May 23, 2022) – California State Parks, Tolowa Dee-Ni’ Nation, Save the Redwoods League, Redwood Parks Conservancy, and the National Park Service today announce the opening of Grove of Titans and the Mill Creek Trail in Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park, part of Redwood National and State Parks (RNSP) in Del Norte County. Park visitors are invited year-round to explore the new 1,300-foot-long boardwalk through the Grove of Titans, which is accessible from the newly realigned Mill Creek Trail

Division of Boating and Waterways Encourages Outdoor Enthusiasts to Boat Responsibly as 2022 Boating Season Begins

SACRAMENTO, Calif.  – California State Parks Division of Boating and Waterways is joining boating education professionals across the country in reminding recreational boaters to boat responsibly during National Safe Boating Week (May 21-27) and year-round. Simple actions such as wearing a life jacket and getting the California Boater Card can help improve safety on California’s waterways.  

Division of Boating and Waterways Now Accepting Grant Applications to Help Keep California’s Waterways Clean

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – California State Parks’ Division of Boating and Waterways (DBW) is now accepting grant applications for the Clean Vessel Act (CVA) Education and Outreach Grant Program. A maximum of $277,500 of federal funding per targeted region is available to organizations for educating coastal and San Francisco Bay-Delta Estuary recreational boaters about proper vessel sewage disposal, the use of pumpout facilities and how to monitor pumpout stations.

Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation Division Celebrates Safety Awareness Week May 14-22

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – California State Parks’ Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation (OHMVR) Division and partners welcome the return of OHV Safety Awareness Week on May 14-22 with this year’s theme of “Train for the Trail.” Practicing essential techniques and simple safety measures such as taking a safety course, learning the rules of riding, planning travel routes in advance, using required equipment, and treading lightly help promote safety in the state’s vehicular recreation areas (SVRA’s) and protect the natural resources that make these public outdoor spaces special.

Design Firm Selected for the California Indian Heritage Center

SACRAMENTO, Calif.— California State Parks and the California Indian Heritage Center Task Force today announced Fentress Architects as the firm to design the long-desired build out of the California Indian Heritage Center (CIHC). Once complete, visitors from across California, the nation, and the world will be drawn to this center of statewide significance for cultural preservation, learning and exchange, land stewardship based on Native American values, and a place to engage all visitors celebrating the living cultures of California tribal communities.
