California State Parks Awards $46 Million in Grants to Increase Recreational Opportunities

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – California State Parks today announced a $46.2 million investment to build healthier communities by creating and improving recreational facilities in 25 local parks. Funded by Proposition 68 through the Rural Recreation and Tourism and Regional Park Programs, the grants awarded will be used to enhance outdoor recreational facilities such as trails, campgrounds, multisports fields, skate and bike parks, and picnic areas.  

Applications Now Being Accepted for Outdoor Recreation Legacy Partnership Program Grants

SACRAMENTO, Calif.—California State Parks is now accepting applications from public entities to provide outdoor recreational experiences to their communities through the federal Outdoor Recreation Legacy Partnership Program (ORLP). In the sixth phase of this competitive grant program, a total of $192 million is available nationwide for communities with limited or no access to publicly available, close-by, outdoor recreation opportunities.

California State Historical Resources Commission To Consider Eight Properties for Action

SACRAMENTO, Calif.—The California State Historical Resources Commission (Commission) will consider six nominations for federal historic designation and two nominations for state historic designation on Friday, August 5. The Commission meeting will be held at 9 a.m. in the California Natural Resources Agency building in Sacramento and will also be streamed on CAL-SPAN.

State Parks to Temporarily Close Campgrounds at Portola Redwoods State Park Due to Drought

SACRAMENTO, Calif.— California State Parks today announced the temporary closure of campground facilities at Portola Redwoods State Park due to lower water flows in Peters Creek, the park’s primary water source. Effective FridayAug. 5, 2022, the campground facilities will be closed for the remainder of the camping season (including reservation, group, and drop-in sites). Affected reservation holders will be contacted by the state’s reservation system – ReserveCalifornia – via email and provided with a refund.

California State Parks Recommends $45 Million for Land and Water Conservation Funds

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – California State Parks today announced recommendations to the National Park Service for $45 million in Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) grants for 16 local park projects. Funding would provide public and private agencies the ability to acquire land and/or develop recreational amenities such as playgrounds, exercise stations, basketball courts, community gardens, and dog and skate parks.

California State Parks Awards $4.6 Million in Grants to Improve Locally Operated State Parks

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — California State Parks today announced $4.6 million in grant funding from Proposition 68 to renovate aging infrastructure in need of repair within seven locally-operated California state parks. Awarded through the Locally Operated State Park Program, grant recipients will use funding to enhance outdoor recreation facilities, such as soccer fields, picnic areas, and parking lots.

Division of Boating and Waterways Offers Boating Infrastructure Grants for Marina Operators

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – California State Parks’ Division of Boating and Waterways is now accepting applications from public and private marina owners for federal Boating Infrastructure Grants (BIG). For 2023, a total of $14 million is available for BIG projects nationally. Applications will be accepted through Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2022.
