Division of Boating and Waterways Now Accepting Grant Applications for Boating Infrastructure from Marina Operators

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – California State Parks’ Division of Boating and Waterways (DBW) is now accepting applications from public and private marina owners for federal Boating Infrastructure Grants (BIG) for 2024. A total of $18 million is available for BIG projects nationally and the grants can fund up to 75% of total project costs, with a maximum available grant award of $1.5 million. Applications will be accepted through Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2023.

Division of Boating and Waterways Now Accepting Grant Applications to Help Keep California’s Waterways Clean

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – California State Parks’ Division of Boating and Waterways (DBW) is now accepting grant applications for the Clean Vessel Act (CVA) Education and Outreach Grant Program. A maximum of $276,937 federal funding per targeted region is available to organizations for educating coastal and San Francisco Bay-Delta Estuary recreational boaters about proper vessel sewage disposal and the use of pumpout facilities and monitoring pumpout and dump stations.

California State Parks K-9 Hugo Receives Body Armor Donation

SACRAMENTO, Calif.—California State Parks Capital District’s K-9 Hugo has received a bullet and stab protective vest, thanks to a charitable donation from non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. Hugo’s vest is sponsored by Douglas MacArthur of Clearfield, Utah and will be embroidered with the sentiment “In memory of Erika K. MacArthur”.  Delivery is expected within eight to ten weeks.

Division of Boating and Waterways Encourages Boaters to Boat Sober this Fourth of July Holiday Weekend

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – California State Parks’ Division of Boating and Waterways (DBW) reminds recreational boaters to avoid alcohol this Fourth of July holiday weekend, a time known for increased boaters on the waters where alcohol use is prevalent, as are subsequent boating incidents and fatalities. To combat impaired boating, law enforcement agencies across the country are intensifying their efforts July 1-3 as part of Operation Dry Water. In California, more than 44 law enforcement entities across California will increase patrols and/or carry out BUI checkpoints.

California State Parks Introduces what3words Tool

SACRAMENTO, Calif.—California State Parks is excited to announce its partnership with innovative location technology, what3words. A new tool in the State Parks toolkit, what3words provides dispatchers with technology to assist visitors in the event they become lost, stranded or who otherwise need help from emergency services. Using this revolutionarytechnology, State Parks dispatchers will now be able to pinpoint the precise locations of individuals who become lost with just three dictionary words, so that help can be sent to where it is needed.

SACRAMENTO, Calif.— California State Parks, and its Divisions of Boating and Waterways and Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation, invites Californians and visitors from around the world to recreate responsibly this Fourth of July weekend, one of the busiest outdoor holidays of the year. With 280 state parks, California’s diverse landscape has recreational activities for everyone from swimming in the lakes, rivers, and oceans to hiking in the giant redwoods or sequoias to off-highway vehicle riding in the deserts and mountains to camping along the coastline. Following simple safety measures such as wearing a lifejacket or proper riding gear, avoiding alcohol, and knowing one’s limits while swimming can help save lives. As a reminder, fireworks are not allowed in state parks.

California State Parks Reopens Application Period for State Park Peace Officer Cadet Exams

SACRAMENTO, Calif.—California State Parks has reopened the application period for the State Park Peace Officer Cadet exams. The department invites individuals to “Live the Parks Life” as rangers or lifeguards in the nation’s largest state park system. The new deadline to apply is Monday, July 31, 2023. Cadet academy graduates can serve the state as rangers and lifeguards to safeguard both visitors and the historical, cultural and natural resources found in 280 state park units. Offices are located near beaches or waterways, or in deserts, parks, museums, historic parks and state vehicular recreation areas.

Major Sand Replenishment Project Underway at Doheny State Beach and Capistrano Beach Park

DANA POINT, Calif., — California State Parks, in partnership with County of Orange and the city of Dana Point, announced today a major sand replenishment project for the south day-use area of Doheny State Beach (SB) and neighboring Capistrano Beach Park. Large storm events coupled with shrinking inputs of sand from local creeks and bluffs have led to narrower, mostly cobble beaches. The project will replenish south Doheny and Capistrano beaches with up to 45,000 cubic yards of sand and serve to offset the coastal erosion that has resulted from large surf, coastal development, and climate change.

D.L. Bliss State Park Closed for Summer 2023 For Replacement of Waterline

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif.— California State Parks is reminding the public that D.L. Bliss State Park is closed for the summer of 2023 to replace the main waterline in the park. Effective immediately, the campground and day-use areas of the park will be closed to visitors and no services will be provided. The closure is anticipated to last throughout the summer, depending on weather or other unknown conditions that may arise. The D.L. Bliss State Park website will be updated with the latest information.
