California State Parks and Partners Launch ‘Arts in California Parks’ Program

SACRAMENTO, Calif.— California State Parks today announced the launch of a new program, Arts in California Parks, to help make California’s parks more inclusive and welcoming. Through this new program, artists, culture bearers, and California Native American tribes will be eligible to receive funding to create artwork throughout state and local parks. The public is invited to chime in on the development of the program through a survey at ArtsinCaliforniaParks.org, and to participate as visitors or collaborators.

Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians and California State Parks Formalize Coordination and Cooperation on Tribe’s Ancestral Homelands

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif.— California State Parks today announced the signing of a 5-year Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians (Tribe). Executed during a formal signing on October 16 at the future site of the California Indian Heritage Center, known as Pusúune in West Sacramento, Tribal Chairwoman Regina Cuellar and State Parks Director Armando Quintero formalized coordination and cooperation between both entities for the protection, preservation, and interpretation for parks on the Tribe’s ancestral homelands.

California State Parks K-9 Hugo Receives Body Armor Donation

SACRAMENTO, Calif.— California State Parks K-9 Hugo has received a bullet and stab protective vest, thanks to a charitable donation from non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc.K-9 Hugo’s vest was sponsored by Douglas MacArthur of Clearfield, UT and embroidered with the sentiment “In memory of Erika K. MacArthur”.

California State Parks and CAL FIRE Plan Prescribed Burn at Calaveras Big Trees State Park

ARNOLD, Calif.— California State Parks plans to conduct a prescribed burn in Calaveras Big Trees State Park with assistance from CAL FIRE, US Forest Service, and National Park Service. The treatment will cover approximately 1,300-acres in the South Grove area. Work may begin as soon as October 30. All burning depends on weather and air quality conditions; if weather or vegetation conditions are not conducive for burning and smoke dispersal, the department will reschedule the treatment.

Division of Boating and Waterways Offers Floating Restroom Grants to Help Keep California’s Waterways Clean

SACRAMENTO, Calif.–California State Parks’ Division of Boating and Waterways (DBW) is accepting grant applications from government agencies for the purchase and deployment of floating restrooms on California’s waterways with limited landside access. A million in federal and state funding is available for approximately four Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)-compliant floating restrooms. Interested applicants to the Floating Restroom Grant Program are encouraged to review the grant guidelines and submit a grant application to DBW by 5 p.m. PST, Monday, Nov. 13, 2023.

Division of Boating and Waterways Provides $18.8 Million in Grants to Keep California’s Waterways Clean and Safe

SACRAMENTO, Calif.— California State Parks’ Division of Boating and Waterways(DBW) has awarded $18.8 million to public entities to provide clean and safe waterways for California’s recreational community. Funding will be used to prevent the further spread of quagga and zebra mussels in freshwater bodies, discourage the illegal disposal of unwanted vessels and purchase search-and-rescue equipment for law enforcement entities.

COLOMA, Calif.— Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park (SHP) in Coloma is pleased to announce the return of Coloma Gold Rush Live! The public is invited to experience California’s rich Gold Rush history at this live event on Friday and Saturday, October 13-14, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, October 15 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. During this 3-day event, park staff and volunteers transform the park into an 1850s tent town where visitors can get a taste of what life was like in Coloma in 1850.
