California State Parks is in the process of classifying and preparing a General Plan for the Delta Meadows property, which includes the Locke Boarding House. This process will determine the park unit’s uses and create a plan for its management, development, and operation. Learn more about this process on the Delta Meadows General Plan Website. The Delta Meadows Park Property is open but does not currently have any services available—there are no restrooms, and trash must be packed out. The park is open for walking along the levees, and fishing in the adjacent sloughs.
Motorized and non-motorized boating is also permitted, with a 5-mph speed limit, although the water levels in the sloughs may be too low for many motorized boats depending on the tide and conditions.
Park Description
Delta Meadows Park Property encompasses 520 acres of riparian woodlands, emergent wetlands, grasslands, sloughs, and many other habitat types. The park offers opportunities for walking and hiking on the levees and trails, fishing and boating in the twisting network of sloughs, or viewing the plentiful wildlife that live, forage, and hunt throughout the park. First acquired by the Department of Parks and Recreation in 1986, Delta Meadows is one of the last places in the Sacramento - San Joaquin Delta that preserves the landscape of the Delta before colonization and large-scale reclamation of the land. Whether you are birdwatching in the Meadows or using the small boat launch to venture into Snodgrass Slough or the wider Delta, Delta Meadows offers recreation opportunities like no other in the Delta.
