About Woodson Bridge State Recreation Area

Woodson Bridge State Recreation Area is nestled in oak woods flanking both sides of the Sacramento River. Fishing and birding are extremely popular in the park: Fishing enthusiasts from all over come for the runs of king salmon, steelhead, striped bass, catfish and blue gill. Since the park is on main flyway between Mexico and Canada, birdwatchers can see geese, ducks, herons, jays, quail, owls, hawks, falcons, pheasant and many other species. West bank has a boat-in campsite and the east shore has 37 family campsites and one group campsite.

Welcome to the Park!

Woodson Bridge State Recreation Area (SRA) is a 324-acre oak woodland park nestled along the Sacramento River between Chico and Red Bluff just 6 miles east of the community of Corning. The park’s primary visitor area offers a lush campground and a little over a mile of hiking trails to explore.

Across the river lies the park’s 260-acre Woodson Bridge Natural Preserve and Kopta Canoe Camp, which are primarily accessed by boat. The preserve offers a representative glimpse of a native riparian river ecosystem that is home to Bald Eagles, the Yellow Billed Cuckoo, and many other animals that live among the oaks, cottonwoods, and sycamores along the river.

Adjacent to the park is the Tehama County River Park, which offers day-use facilities and a boat launch to enjoy the river. Immediately south of the SRA is the 1,100-acre Rio Vista Unit of the Sacramento National Wildlife Refuge, which offers opportunities for recreational hunting, fishing, hiking, bicycling, and other outdoor pursuits.
