Guided Hikes (3rd-6th)

Bridge Crossing at Indian Beach

We're excited to offer a guided, two-hour hike along the Indian Beach Nature Trail Loop at Tomales Bay State Park. Students will explore two of the park's most biodiverse biomes-- the Bishop Pine forests and salt marshes--and learn about the plants and animals that call it home!

This program is designed for 3rd-6th grade, but can be customized for individual classes or age groups with enough notice.

Please read the following before booking:

Each time slot is suitable for one class or 40 people.

Due to limited space, hikes at Tomales Bay State Park must not exceed 35 students. School groups are also required to have at least 1 chaperone per 8 students.

Allow at least 2 hours for interpretive programming. This does not include time for bathrooms or bus loading.

Please plan to meet State Park Staff at the Heart's Desire Day-Use area for trailhead access/offloading students.

The hike includes 1.6 miles of hiking through moderately hilly terrain. There are stairs and outcroppings of sand along the trail. Please consider any accommodations your class may need. We recommend students wear sturdy close-toed shoes, pack water bottles, and a bag lunch for the trip.

NOAA Marine Debris Monitoring (7th-12th)

NOAA Beach Clean-Up

For 7th, 8th, and 9th-12th grades, we offer a beach clean-up and scientific monitoring project in partnership with the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Through their Marine Debris Monitoring and Assessment Project (or MDMAP) we can provide an opportunity for school groups to particpate hands-on in scientific data collection and monitoring efforts.

You can find more information about the MDMAP program here: NOAA Marine Debris Monitoring and Assessment Project

Please contact: kaylie.williams@parks.ca.gov for more information about the program or to schedule directly.
