Culvert cleanout and repairs

Culvert cleanout and repair work is underway along Riggs Canyons Rd, Burma Rd, Mitchell Canyon Fire Road, and Little Pine Creek Road. Culverts throughout the park are being inspected, which is critical for identifying problems early on to prevent catastrophic damage.

Please be aware and cautious when recreating around heavy equipment.

Accessible trail planning

State Parks staff have been planning and will begin scoping a new accessible trail at Camp Force, reviewing routes, grades, surfaces and connections. A route and construction schedule have not been established.

Fuels work in the Knobcone area

State Parks fuels crew along with contracted youth core groups have been managing fuels along Knobcone Point Road and building burn piles with cut material. This work is being done to reintroduce fire with the aim of promoting ecosystem health. Crews have constructed100’s of piles to burn in the Knobcone area. Prescribed burning will happen pending required approvals, permits, and suitable conditions. The date for the prescribed burn has not yet been established but can happen as early as Fall 2026. Roads and trails are expected to remain open. Watch our website and social media for updates.
When prescribed burns are in progress use caution, follow posted directions, and give crews room to work.

Trail safety

State Park Rangers continue to focus on monitoring for appropriate trail use. Please stay on designated trails, follow posted restrictions, and be considerate of others. Leave no trace.

State Parks plans to release a trails assessment form through Survey123 where you can report trail conditions soon. In the meantime, please let us know of any trail related issues by emailing Feedback.MountDiablo@parks.ca.gov.

Highlighted Project: Recent work on Lower Summit Trail

In October, State Parks staff removed an aging drainage crossing along Lower Summit Trail and replaced it with a new, standard redwood crossing known as a puncheon. This improved structure will help maintain safe and reliable trail access while supporting long-term trail sustainability.
Thank you for being patient while construction occurred.

Construction of 22 Additional Bike Turnouts
at Mount Diablo State Park - October 2024 update

The final touches have been completed on this year's project to add 22 new bike turnouts to the roads of Mount Diablo State Park.
Now, as cyclists pedal up the park's steep roads, they can take advantage of a total of 67 bicycle turnouts which allow them to pull out of the main traffic lane into their own lane so that vehicles can pass safely.
Funding for this set of bike turnouts was provided by California State Parks and by public donations through the California State Parks Foundation and coordinated by Valley Spokesmen Bicycle Club and the Mount Diablo Cyclists.
We want to thank everyone who contributed making these safety enhancements possible!
