Silver Strand State Beach Junior Lifeguards
The Silver Strand Junior Lifeguard Program is a 3 week (2 sessions offered this summer) ocean recreation and education program that meets weekdays from 9am-2pm. This program is offered to participants ranging in age from 9 - 16 years old. A swim test is required to enter this program.
The Silver Strand Grom Program is a 2 week (2 sessions offered this summer) introductory program designed to get kids ready for Junior Lifeguards. This program meets weekdays from 9am-1pm and offered to participants ranging in age from 7 - 8 years old. A swim test is required to enter this program.
- ALL Junior Guards, new and returning, will be required to pass the swim test in order to participate in the 2026 program.

JG SESSION 1
Dates: 6/22/26 – 7/10/26 (3 weeks)
Hours: 9am-2pm, weekdays
Cost: $450
GROM SESSION 1
Dates: 6/29/26 - 7/10/26 (2 weeks)
Hours: 9am-1pm, weekdays
Cost: $275
JG SESSION 2
Dates: 7/20/26 – Fri 8/7/26 (3 weeks)
Hours: 9am-2pm, weekdays
Cost: $450
GROM SESSION 2
Dates: 7/27/26 - 8/7/26 (2 weeks)
Hours: 9am-1pm, weekdays
Cost: $275
-The program cost does not include the uniform fees.
- Registration is completed through the CA State Parks reservation system, Reserve CA. Please go to the Registration tab on the right for all information needed to complete enrollment.
2026 Tryout Dates
JG Swim Test Sunday, May 31st, 9 am – 12 pm
JG Swim Test Sunday, June 7th, 9 am – 12 pm
JG Swim Test Wednesday, June 10th, 12 pm – 3 pm
*JG Swim Test Sunday, July 12th, 9 am – 12 pm
*This option is after Session 1 has concluded, therefore only for registrants in Session 2.
-Arrive anytime during the 3 hour timeframe to complete the swim test.
Grom Swim Test Sunday, June 7th @ 11 am
Grom Swim Test Sunday, June 21st @ 11 am
- If your child participated in a previous Grom Program and is now looking to participate in the JG Program, they will need to complete the JG swim test.
- There will be 2 Grom tryout options that will be separate from the JG tryouts. Please take note there is a specific time for the swim test.
