Our Mission

The Mission of the California State Parks Folsom Lake Junior Lifeguard Program is to provide high-quality water safety and environmental education while creating unique recreational opportunities for the youth of California. The Junior Lifeguard Program emphasizes three pillars of development: teamwork, leadership, and aquatic safety. The program is designed to improve young people's physical conditioning, understanding and respect for the environment, and respect for themselves as well as their peers.Youth Aides

Folsom Lake Junior Lifeguards

The Folsom Lake Junior Lifeguard Program is a four-week (two sessions per summer) recreation and education program that takes place at Black Miners Bar Swim Beach. The program meets on weekdays from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. This program is offered to participants ranging in age from 8-16 years old with proficient swimming abilities. This is NOT a learn to swim program.

The aim of our program is to provide a safe place where participants can be instructed in a variety of skills pertaining to the lifeguarding profession and the aquatic environment. Instructors will introduce participants to basic CPR skills, first aid, lifesaving competitions, rescue techniques, and lifeguarding procedures.

Our summer sessions offer unique opportunities to our participants including a day of river rafting, as well as a camping trip to Santa Cruz for ocean orientation.

Participants are expected to participate in all events and should understand that exercise is a key component of our program.
