The Año Nuevo Mainland camera provides viewers with spectacular live views of the elephant seal colony at Año Nuevo State Park. This area has been set aside with other sections of Año Nuevo State Park as a Natural Preserve and a UC Natural Reserve, dedicated as habitat for a diversity of wildlife. Researchers at UC Santa Cruz study elephant seals to understand how long-lived animals survive, reproduce, and adapt to a changing environment. In the camera view, you may see seals with temporary hair dye marks on their sides. These harmless marks allow scientists to identify individual seals and track their behavior and population dynamics. This live footage was made possible by the Beltran Lab.
